Application Engineer
Position:
At Shopatron, our Application Engineers provide detailed technical support to help prepare, maintain and bring to market online stores for Shopatron's manufacturer clients. These clients are frequently large multi-national organizations that own valuable brands. You will help them realize the potential of these brands selling direct to consumers using the Shopatron network. There will be considerable scope for you to develop your technical and project management skills in a fast moving work environment that rewards personal initiative.
As a secondary role you will also provide second tier technical support to the UK Customer Service Team in their operation and use of the Shopatron system. The Customer Service Team interact directly with Shopatron's network of manufacturers, retailers and end-user retail consumers, frequently in a European language. You will need to work with this team to identify problems and shortcomings in the software and help them work around the operational issues these may create.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a technical subject with several years relevant work experience. The ability to speak either French or German would be a great advantage. We would consider German or French nationals living in the UK for this opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out and assist with online store implementation tasks including: sourcing data within the clients existing software systems, data manipulation and troubleshooting, task and timeline management and client training.
- To deliver high quality support to existing Shopatron Manufacturer clients in the authoring and maintenance of their product catalogs hosted in the Shopatron content management system.
- Communicate professionally and pro actively with clients to ensure that the mutually agreed goals and timescales are met. Escalate problems that may cause the project to miss the defined objectives both within the Shopatron organization and within the client's own organisation.
- Liaise with the Engineering teams to ensure any new product developments are completed to the specification agreed with the Manufacturer client and verify the functional scope of software delivered meets the requirement.
- Become the technical expert in the operation and concepts contained within the entire Shopatron systems so that you can accurately identify bugs, shortcomings and enhancements to the software. Liaise with the engineering teams so that critical bugs and shortcomings in the software are fixed to the satisfaction of your Manufacturer clients.
- Guide clients through how to group and organize their products within the Shopatron system so that retail shoppers can find and configure the products quickly and accurately. Where necessary to work with new Manufacturer clients to understand their product configurations and translate these into an eCommerce context.
- To work with the USA Implementation Team to share best practice experiences and minimize the work for Shopatron to support multi-national clients that operate in a worldwide context.
Required Skills:
- Fluency in either French or German would be an advantage.
- Degree level qualification in a software or technology subject.
- Two or more years work experience in a related technology or high profile support organization.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Used MySQL, SQLServer or MSAccess to manipulate and query data
- Strong skills using spreadsheets and ASCII text editors
- Good skills in a layer-based image editing software
- Some skills in HTML editing and general web page concepts like meta tags
- Ability to recognize new sales opportunities that you may uncover in your dealings with Manufacturer organizations and report these to your line manager.
- Formal project management training and/or use of formal planning tools such as MS Project.
- Very strong communication and team relationship skills. Ability to clearly and tactfully communicate needs and timelines to clients and/or internal development teams.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment and meet agreed timescales, often not directly supervised.
- A positive, methodical attitude with the persistence and ability to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to meet clients at their premises in the UK and Europe as required.
- Superior analytic skills and attention to detail.
The position is salaried and will be based from Shopatron's Swindon office in Wiltshire UK.
